The interview

Host: Today we will be joined by a special guest who was a famous fonder of Manitoba. He is Louis Riel.

Audience claps* *Louis Riel enters*

Host: Welcome to the show Louis Riel.

Louis Riel: Its a pleasure to be here.

Host: I have heard that you wanted to be a Priest before and had all the education but why didn't you finish your education??

Louis Riel: Well, I stopped going to school to become a Priest when I was younger because of my father death. While I wasn't at school I was working to earn some money for my family.

Host: oh okay, Why were people so worried when the government of Canada bought the land of the Red River Colony??

Louis Riel: They were worried about their future and about keeping their rights and their way of life. They needed a leader, and they chose me to be that leader.

Host: How was Manitoba formed?

Louis Riel: First i had to show that I wanted to talk directly to Ottawa, I formed a Métis government. Then I stopped the Canadian representative from entering the colony, took control of Upper Fort Garry and held several people there as prisoners. Then As part of the agreement the Province of Manitoba was formed, which included the Red River Colony. When, to keep the peace, Ottawa sent troops to the new province. I was scared for my life.

Host: Why were you so scared for your life?

Louis Riel: I was so scared because to keep the peace, when Ottawa sent troops to the new province Many of the soldiers that went to there did not like francophones and Catholics, and Riel was both. He fled to the United States to protect himself.

Host: I have heard that you killed Thomas Scott. Why did you kill him?

Louis Riel: Well, I killed Thomas Scott because he was an anti-Catholic and anti-French sentiment in Ontario. He also was very disloyal to his country. He betrayed many people while he joined Canada.

Host: So you don't have any regrets?

Louis Riel: No, I don't because I had a very good reason for my actions.

Host: Wow, why were you sent to east to study at the Seminaire de St-Sulpice in Montreal to became a Priest?

Louis Riel: I was sent to study there because when i was a child I had a quickness of mind and it was recognized by the priests at Saint-Boniface.

Host: Okay thanks for coming here, that's all the time we have today.

Assigment # 7

While i was reading the different categories We founded, We built and many more i was amazed by many different things people did then. If you would like to visit the website Click Here.

a. Which category of Canadian Personalities interested you the most?

The category that interested me the most was the "we fonded"section. It interested me because every person their had founded something new. It like added something new to the world. I liked the section " We founded" the most because it showed many people who did and found many thing that I never knew before.

b.Which personality interested you the most? Why?
The personality that interested me the most was Lotta Hitschmanova. She was a humanitarian. Lotta was a very kind hearted person and was very welcoming. She loved kids and helped them as much as she could. Lotta thought of every kid as he kid. One of the Quotes she said was" It is when I think of those youngsters that truly I feel I am the mother of 2,000 children." She was born in Prague, in what is now the Czech Republic. She came alone to Canada. Her parents died in Europe because at that time there was a war going on. Also when she came to Canada she was refugee. When she came to Canada she had a hope to find a job and help the world helpless especially the kids. When she found aid agency, the Unitarian Service Committee she went straight to work to help the helpless. For 36 years she did as much as she could. Some of the thing she did were speaking, writing, travelling and raising funds for the needy.

c. Suggest three more influential Canadian personalities.

If I would pick three influential Canadians they would be:

  • Fredrick Banting

He discovered a way to help diabetes. what he discovered was if you put insulin into the blood the sugar level would be under control. It made millions of life more easier.

  • Alexander Bell

He was known to inventor and his invention was made on Canadian soil. He created the telephone in 1876.

  • Terry Fox

Terry inspired and helped many people while running across Canada. He asked each Canadian for a dollar to donate to cancer research.

The website that i used was http://www.cbc.ca/greatest/top_ten/.

I would put Fredrick Banting and Alexander Bell in "we founded" and i would put Terry Fox in "we inspired".

The personality that I got was Pierre Elliot Trudeau. One things that we had in common was I like to do sports and so did he. That was the only thing we had in common. Something that were different then me was he didn't care about what he wore but I do, He had a brother and a sister I have 2 sisters and 1 brother and his dad died but mine didn't.

One hundred years from now (in 2109!) students who are learning about Canadian History they will discover me. I would like to be remembered as a person who was the first person on Mars. How it will be like in the future....

Kawal Pirwani was born in 1995. She was the first person on Mars. That was impossible before in 2009. But now it was made possible by her. She has been working real hard since she was very young till now. How she accomplished her goal was by never giving up. One of her quotes was" If you set your mind on something dont give up and it will be accomplished".
