Assigment # 5 - It's Cold

A lot of people wondered why the Europeans decided to leave their homeland and stay in Canada despite the cold weather. Well the Europeans rather be cold then live a unfair life like they had to before they came to Canada. They weren't allowed to follow their beliefs, they weren't allowed to live their life the way they wanted to because the government controlled it, men were forced to join the army, there were not many jobs and if you had a job you weren't payed a whole lot, some were very poor and barely had enough money to survive, farmers wanted to own there land than have the government own it, and the cities were overcrowded, dirty and polluted.

What made them come to Canada was all the above and also the Government of Canada was offering free land to those who were willing to settle on the prairies. For many this was an opportunity to own land and have a better life. People were also told that there were plenty of jobs available. Some immigrants hoped to make some money and buy land or set up a business.

Well since they moved to Canada they still had other challenges in there path. They had to start a whole new life. And it wasn't that easy. There were many hardships they has to face such as finding food, keeping warm, building their homes, facing new sicknesses and many more. Who helped them face many challenges were the Aboriginals. They helped them by showing them how to use what that were surrounded with such as the wood from trees for houses, animals for food and clothing, water from lakes or rivers to drink from, the dirt to grow vegetables and fruits. If the Aboriginals weren't there the Europeans would have probably not have survived the cold winters.

How the Europeans dealt with the cold was by using animals fur and building fires out of wood.
